Nancy Tuten: Owner and Founder
Nancy founded Get It Write in 1991. Since then, she has taught hundreds
of writing seminars for businesses and government agencies (see our
client list
). She holds a Ph.D. in English and has taught writing and literature at the college level since 1982. She currently serves as a tenured member of the English Department faculty at Columbia College, where she teaches and directs the writing-across-the-curriculum program. She has published a number of scholarly articles and three books: The First Fifty Tips (2002, coauthored with Gayle Swanson), The Robert Frost Encyclopedia (Greenwood, 2000, coedited with John Zubizarreta) and Critical Essays on Galway Kinnell (G. K. Hall, 1996). For over a decade, she has been a consulting editor for the international journal The Explicator and was formerly associate editor of the academic journal Studies in Short Fiction.
Gayle Swanson: Associate
Gayle holds a Ph.D. in British literature and has taught English at the college level for over twenty years. For the last decade she has also worked as a freelance editor, numbering among her clients the
South Carolina Department of Education, the University of Nebraska Press, the University of Georgia Press, the Naval Institute Press at Annapolis, and the Open Society Institute in Budapest, Hungary. She is the past editor of Studies in Short Fiction and is currently an executive editor
of The Explicator. Among her published writings are essays on the works of British and American authors, the teaching of college English, and the job of editing a scholarly journal. She is also the coauthor of a book on South Carolina poets.
